A Palestinian home will be invaded tonight. Without a warrant, a court order, or even suspicion. IDF soldiers invade Palestinian homes all the time. In 2017-18 alone, Israeli security forces invaded the homes of Palestinian families 6,402 times. That’s 267 invasions per month, on average. In each invasion, armed combat soldiers enter a Palestinian home in the middle of the night, wake everyone up (yes, including the children), and gather them in one room. No need for a warrant. There’s even no need for a reasonable suspicion.
What are home invasions, what do they look like and why are they even more dangerous than they may appear at first glance? In a new report, ‘A Life Exposed’, three Israeli anti-occupation human rights organizations, Breaking the Silence, Yesh Din and Physicians for Human Rights – Israel, analyze the various elements of one of the most commonplace military practices employed by the IDF in the occupied territories, based on dozens of testimonies given by soldiers who took part in these missions as well as hundreds of testimonies of Palestinians whose homes were invaded.
