On a regular basis? It was back then. There was a time when curfew was in force from late evening until morning. Then Ramadan was going on and it was stopped. So we were walking in some alley. I don't know if you have ever walked around Abu Sneina in some of those alleys, with your weapon and bullet-proof vest and all that gear, feeling so little and scared. So we were walking there, I think it was close to the prostitute's house, that's what it was called... We were walking and suddenly one of the guys saw someone behind a car beginning to run somewhere. We immediately followed and the guy banged some door, so we went in, knocked on that door, "Open up, army!" Out comes the father in his underwear, with some boy, and he grips his ear, and before we even said one word he beats him on the head until the boy's whole body shakes, and "No", "he just went out for a smoke", and this and that. My sergeant who was in charge of the patrol at that moment, made the reasonable decision and said: Okay, alright. We checked the house very briefly, and made sure nothing was out of the ordinary, and left him, explained he shouldn't go out again during curfew. Again, you come out of such situations feeling like what the hell am I doing here.
