Pile of crates filled with chicks
Rank: First Sergeant
Unit: Artillery corps, 405 Battalion
Area: West bank
period: 2002

When we did checkpoint duty, sometimes people weren’t allowed to bring goods into villages, which was pretty depressing.

What goods? There were different regulations about what kinds of goods were allowed in, and which were not. Once, I don’t remember which checkpoint it was, someone had a whole lot of crates filled with chicks in his trunk. And maybe it wasn’t allowed, I think they (Palestinians) weren’t allowed to bring in goods in a vehicle that didn’t have a special permit to carry goods, so a private car couldn’t actually deliver goods. So this guy had a whole bunch of crates filled with chicks in his trunk and he had nothing to do with it. He just left them outside the village and they stayed there all day, just this pile of crates filled with chicks. We didn’t know what to do with it.
