Knee and below
Rank: First Sergeant
Unit: Nachal engineering Unit
Area: Qalqilya area
period: 2012

We were in Qalqilya, there were stones thrown at the fence, trying to start fires and stuff like that. We had a patrol there that dealt with this a lot. (We) ambushed those who used to come and burn the fence or destroy it. Ambush, if they destroy – immediately shooting at the knee and below. That’s the command.

What’s considered destruction? It means they reach the fence, climb it, burn it; when they start doing something. There was one time that the command came from above, I think from high up or from the reserves battalion commander.

Did you have to identify a means, a Molotov Cocktail? The minute they start doing something – knee and below.

Warning shots first? Knee and below… Three or four of us were ambushing, they (the Palestinians) started cutting it [the fence]; the instruction was to shoot at the knees. It was with a Trij (Trijicon, a sharpshooter scope), Trij is the precise sight, (he) shot near them.

On purpose? Yes. He didn’t want to shoot him in the knee, he didn’t follow the command. But the command was to shoot at the knee. They ran away.
