This one time, we were stationed right inside Nablus, while we were securing the Itamar [settlement] area. We went into the city in an armored Hummer, right in the alleyways, and after we’d driven on some street, a stone was thrown at us. I had a hot-tempered platoon commander who wasn’t prepared to overlook that. We turned around, went back to that same street, he found the doorway from which the stone had been thrown, and we threw a teargas canister inside. You don’t know who is inside, what there is inside, you know nothing. Suddenly you see lots of people streaming out, simply pouring out. It turned out that it was a barbershop, that doorway where we threw in the teargas canister. You see people trying to break out, 20 or even 25 people. At first, people were really crowding at the door, choking on the teargas in there, and the last ones you see coming out are two people with half of their hair cut, and some more barbers. We came back again half an hour later and saw a guy with a hose spraying water into that smoke-filled room, standing there in rubber flip-flops and spraying water, trying to clear the air of his barbershop.
