We would do a lot of shooting. On the way from "Anat" (a Palestinian home the soldiers had taken over to use as an army post), from our square to the checkpoint, we'd always move on a street that was very hostile. They always threw stones at us there, sometimes Molotov cocktails. So at night we'd open fire there at some pile of garbage that was always there. That was preventive fire.

Under orders? You were ordered to open preventive fire?Yes.

Only if stones were thrown at you?No, there were no people there then. In the middle of the night, 2:00-3:00 AM, Fire at what the gunner detected as garbage.

Machine-gun fire?Coaxial machine-gun. There were no "mags" in tanks yet, I think. The loader didn't have a "mag". I'm a loader and I didn't have a "mag"; we took it off beforehand.

So it wouldn't be taken down?Yes. The tank commander had a "mag"but I don't think he fired it. Maybe.
